Interim Director – The Alcuin Internship

Charlemagne Institute is seeking an Interim Director for the Alcuin Internship, an immersive intellectual and professional training program for a group of elite college students and recent graduates. Hosted by Charlemagne Institute each summer, the Alcuin Internship prepares young minds for lives of service to the values and principles of Western Civilization.

The Interim Director will mentor 7-10 summer interns and plan the program’s educational components and networking initiatives. This position has a varied seasonal schedule designed to accommodate an academic or parish calendar. The successful candidate will serve for 1-2 years, with opportunity to secure longer employment after evaluation.

About the Alcuin Internship

The 10-week internship begins with the five-day Intellectual Bootcamp followed by nine weeks of work and weekly seminars with thought leaders from around the country, discussing topics such as virtue, the history of conservativism, the roots of the Western intellectual tradition, and Christianity’s role in shaping the West. Additionally, the Alcuin Internship provides professional mentorship in writing for a diverse audience, business etiquette, networking and growth opportunities, and practical workplace experience at a national nonprofit. 


Mentoring & Education

  • Provide personal, in-depth mentoring to program participants in support of their spiritual, intellectual, and professional development
  • Cultivate interns’ writing skills through editorial support and mentorship in communicating with a national audience
  • Drawing on content and faculty from previous years, develop and lead a robust educational program in the history and values of the Western Tradition for the Intellectual Bootcamp and 10-week summer program
  • Facilitate personal development and camaraderie among interns through team-building activities
  • Oversee intern selection process through application screening and personal interviews with candidates


  • Engage with intern alumni through ongoing mentoring, employer recommendations, and semi-regular organizational events
  • Network with past and prospective speakers to develop itinerary of lectures and events
  • Cultivate professional network among strategic partners and business leaders to support job placement for interns

Program Management:

  • Contribute regular, original content to reach our national audiences at Intellectual Takeout and Chronicles magazine
  • Work with development and communications personnel to evaluate and track program achievement for grant reporting
  • Host educational events and prepare materials and media (with support of administrative staff)
  • Work with organizational leadership to vision and implement expansion of the Alcuin Internship
  • Other duties as assigned by management

  • The spiritual, intellectual, and professional development of all interns
  • A prolific dissemination of interns’ content, informed by the ideas presented in educational seminars
  • Practical experience gained by all interns in supporting the general operations of Charlemagne Institute
  • Development of the Alcuin Internship into a nationally recognized program for raising up the next generation of young Americans

  • Based in Minnesota from June to mid-August during the internship 
  • Willing to travel occasionally and holds a valid state driver’s license

Time Commitment

The position is part-time seasonal, with a full-time commitment during the 10-week summer program.

  • Mid-August to Dec:  5-10 hours per month
  • January to May:  20-30 hours per month
  • June to Mid-August:  Full time
